I listened intently to all the WiseUSA'08 discussions/meditation/prayer sharings that were provided last fall. I was truly blown away with the wide selection of guests that were featured, and their vast array of spiritual tools and guidance. Sharon McErlane spoke one day about the subtle activism her Grandmothers Speak organization does throughout the world. At the end of her discussion, she guided us in a beautiful, subtle, and yet powerful prayer/meditation accompanied by her Native American drumming. Although I was impressed, I did not feel the full impact of that experience until I listened to the recorded hour again, and again.

The Grandmothers' message/mission resonated deeply within me. I felt compelled to
e-mail Sharon to gain information about her organization; and to learn more about the Great Council of Grandmothers.

I wrote Sharon about how sad, confused and bewildered I was about all the gun-carrying youth in the City of Chicago........ all the senseless and bizarre shooting and killing by young, school-age children. I wanted to know what the Grandmothers might have to say about this; what comfort I could gain from them. Sharon was touched by my e-mail and asked if she could forward it to all the Grandmothers around the globe. I was honored! To my surprise and joy, many women from different parts of the world responded with prayers and statements of compassion, love and hope for me and for the City of Chicago. I began walking around like a strong and empowered being of light, hope and healing. I walked a little taller and felt tremendous encouragment and hope. It was as if this little patch of land where I inhabit is being watched over and prayed for by such wonderful women and men, as well as unseen, divine beings. And, no doubt, this is being done for every neighborhood/community/city/state/country on this entire beautiful planet of ours.

I joined up with the Grandmothers last October, and today, March 28, 2009, at 5 PM, I hosted the first Chicago (English-speaking) Chapter of Grandmothers Speak. I have high hopes and dreams that our group will provide unconditional nurturing and support to Chicago's inner-city youth -- to our entire embattled city.
