Gaia was the name the Minoans, pre-Greeks, gave to the Mother Earth, and all living things.
Ge, as found in Geology and Geography, is a derivative.
More recently, scientist James Lovelock adopted the term to name his observation, The Gaia Theory, that the Earth is one Living Mega System, of which we are a part.
